Op Art |
Short for optical art. This term was coined in 1964 by George Rickey. This style is abstract by nature and is based on trying to cause the illusion of movement with a stationary two dimensional surface. It reached its peak in popularity in the mid 1960's and then soon faded away but enjoyed a small resurgence in the 1980's.

Argentine movement founded by Jorge de la Vega, Ernesto Deira, Rómulo Macció, and Luis Felipe Noé in 1961. The four artsist shared a studio, exhibited together, and in 1961 traveled as a group to Paris to see the work by Jean Debuffet and the CoBrA group. Otra Figuración was instrumental in the regeneration of Argentine figurative painting, and when they exhibited together at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1963 they garnered international recognition, but disbanded in 1964.
