Acamonchi is the creation of Gerardo Yepiz, who currently lives and works in San Diego, California. As a visual artist and graphic designer he has collaborated with and worked for Black Market, Shepard Fairey, a.k.a Obey Giant, Suave Records and Howe Clothing among others and is a member of the Nortec Visual Collective.

Yepiz’s work represents a fusion between the experimental nature of visual art and the functionality of graphic design, erasing the borders between each practice.

Acamonchi is directly linked to an urban sensibility and draws on Yepiz’s experiences of underground culture in the North of Mexico and Southern California. A mixture of influences and styles from skateboard culture, graffiti, underground press, handmade advertising, punk, graphic design, electronic urban kitsch, poster–art, drum and base, pop art and web-design inform work that Yepiz describes as "an information war".

Among some of Acamonchi’s most far reaching work has been the appropriation and restaging of influential figures from Northern Mexican culture and politics on stencils and stickers, which have been posted in Tijuana, Mexico City and further a field in Japan and elsewhere. This neo graffiti or propaganda employs alternative strategies of urban communication, wittily wrestling back public space from corporate giants and corrupt politicians.

More recently Gerardo Yepiz has been involved in videos and documentaries by Nortec, Bulbo TV, Annika Seiffert, KPBS and on the film Frontier Life.

Work by Acamonchi has appeared in numerous international shows including The MexArtFest, Kyoto, Japan and Diagnosticos Urbanos at the Centro Cultural de Tijuana, Tijuana, Mexico; and in publications such as Thrasher, Sensoria from Censorium, Sube Baja, Urban Latino, Arcana, AM7, Latin Pulse, Stencil Grafifiti and Celeste among others.
