(b. Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 1956).
Soares lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated with a degree in architecture from Santa Ursula University and additionally received a specialization in art history from Pontificia Universidade, both in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She obtained an MFA from Pratt Institute, New York City and a Doctorate in Art from the New York University. She works primarily in sculpture and installation, often using organic and ephemeral materials such as bees wax, perfumes, roses and glass. Reoccurring themes within Soares' work include intoxication, decay, loss, and nature as a construct and its relation to notions of the feminine. In such recent works as, Vanishing point (1998), Soares makes reference to formal gardens. This piece consists of gallons of perfume oil, placed in stainless steel tanks, positioned on the floor in a hedge-maze design.
