Figueroa worked as an assistant in the Korda Studios from 1964-1968. In 1969 he became a photojournalist for Cuba International magazine, and in 1976 he went on to work as a cinematography camera assistant for the Ministry of Education, a position he held until 1983. His work has been shown internationally, and is held in the permanent collections of institutions in Cuba, Mexico, France, and the United States. Figueroa lives and works in Havana.
