(b. San Gregorio, Tacuarembó, Uruguay, 1919). Alpuy is a Constructivist artist who works in oils and sculpts in wood. He studied and worked at the Taller Torres-García from 1939 to 1950, and also from 1952 to 1959. He achieved the position of head teacher in 1946. In 1961 Alpuy received a fellowship from the New School of Social Research and established his residence in New York City, where he still resides. In 1981 he was awarded a mural commission for the new Uruguayan Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His works have been exhibited internationally.
