Ultrabaroque: Aspects of Post-Latin American Art
by LatinArt.com

Ultrabaroque: Aspects of Post-Latin American Art, a traveling exhibition organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, is based on a reevaluation of the baroque and its use as an important cultural metaphor in contemporary art.

The exhibition explores the influence and impact of the baroque, as a style and period, and the after-math and legacy of the colonization of the Americas. The exhibition Ultrabaroque: Aspects of Post-Latin American Art, was co-curated by MCA Senior Curator Elizabeth Armstrong and independent curator Victor Zamudio-Taylor. After its premiere in San Diego, Ultrabaroque will travel to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (February 4 - May 6, 2001), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (August 18, 2001 - January 2, 2002), the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (January 30 to April 28, 2002), the Miami Art Museum (June 20 - August 24, 2002), and the Walker Art Center (October 13, 2002 - January 5, 2003).
