(b. Barcelona, Spain, 1920; d. 1992).
He moved with his family to Colombia when he was still a child. From 1937 to 1941 he studied in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, USA, Spain and France. He lived in France from 1949- 1954. In 1955 he returned to Colombia and became director of the Movimiento Nacional de Artes in Bogotá, Colombia. His main inspiration has been Colombia, physically and historically. His style has been called Abstract Expressionism, staying figurative like most Abstract Expressionism in Latin America; however, the theme and inspiration for his work is more South American. He painted the flora and fauna of Colombia as symbolism in his paintings that were inspired by historical and events in Colombia, lending the same amount of drama to paintings such as "Cattle drowning in Magdalena River" (1956) to "The Dead Student" (1956) which was painted after the massacre of students during the Rojas Pinilla dictatorship in Colombia.
