(b. Caracas, Venezuela, 1960).
Vaisman lives and works in both Caracas and New York City. He studied at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Vaisman began as a painter, but has more recently produced objects and installations. His work has involved critical self-portraiture, addressing questions regarding the construction of identity, through the use of role play and stereotypical imagery of non-western cultures. In 1996, he created the installation Green on the Outside/Red on the Inside (My parents Closet) shown at 303 Gallery in New York City. This installation consisted of a small building made from rough clay blocks and a metal roof, similar in appearance to residential structures that cover the hillsides of poor communities in Venezuela. The interior of this structure, seen through peep-holes, displayed a clean, finished bedroom, recalling the room of an upper-class high school or university student.
