(b. Managua, Nicaragua. 1922).
Fernando Saravia, painter, sculptor, and docent entered the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Managua in 1941, where he studied under the direction of his sculptor teacher Genaro Amador Lira. After graduation he began teaching sculpture at the Escuela de Bellas Artes and by 1948, along with Rodrigo Penalba, had formed a new generation of Nicaraguan artists.
Already an important sculptor in Nicaragua, in 1955 he participated in an exhibition of six Nicaraguan artists in the Gallery of Pan-American Union in Washington D.C. At the 1964 World’s Fair held in New York Saravia represented Nicaragua in the Central American Pavilion with his sculpture "Bird of Fire". In 1990 the Nicaraguan government presented him with the Orden de la Indepencia Cultural Ruben Dario award.
In 1992 the Galleria Codice organized a retrospective of his work in commemoration of his seventieth birthday. In 1997 the Cultural Institute of Nicaragua awarded hi
