(b. Havana, Cuba, 1944).
This painter, of Cuban birth settled in Chicago in 1961 and studied at the Art Institute. His early work expressed an interest in body language and the mannered movements of silent cinema. By the 1980's he turned his attention to dream imagery, paradoxical contrapositions and a magical realist language. This shift is reflected in his color and spatial structure that became expansive, radiant and stagelike in its theatrical form. His work has been exhibited in major group exhibitions such as: "Hispanic Art in the United States", organized by the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington DC, and the Houston Museum of Art (1987); and a survey of Cuban émigré art from 1960, "Outside Cuba/Fuera de Cuba," organized by Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ (1987).
